The camping ground was first opened by Ray Quinney in 1961 as a means to raise money for charitable organisations. In those days the camping ground gained a reputation for being a unique place with some risk-taking perhaps for both children and adults with homemade amusements, some unsafe trees and basic ablutions. When Ray passed away in 1996, it was decided that the camping ground was popular enough to warrant a major upgrade to bring it up to modern standards without sacrificing the simple, back to basics feel that people had come to know and love. A percentage of the camp fees are still distributed to local and overseas charities, with the rest going to pay running costs and for further upgrading. We want to continue the tradition of Quinney's Bush being a camping ground where people can camp wherever they wish, bring the family pet, swim in the river, cook over a fire and gather around a campfire at night to enjoy traditional family times.Quinney's Bush Camp & Caravan Park is a member of the Holiday Accommodation Parks Association of New Zealand.
